Working hard, not hardly working

I’ve been really busy lately. Aside from regular freelance projects, this site’s redesign has been taking a big chunk of my time. It’s coming along nicely. I was hoping to launch it this last weekend, but I’ve decided to take some time to add features that will make it easier to update my portfolio. I’ve also decided to spend more time with the site’s typography. I’m hoping the extra time will help me make a better site.

New blog post coming as soon as I launch later this week. Promise.

Working as a Freelancer

I’ve been asked a few times how my job has been working out. As some of you know, I currently have a freelance job with a TV network. It’s great because the job comes with a consistent paycheck and there’s no need for me to chase anyone down to pay their invoice on time. Something every freelancer has to deal with are all the administrative things of a business. Everything from sales to accounting. So the fact that I got a gig where I don’t have to deal with any of it certainly makes me feel warm inside.

However, being a freelancer means no paid vacations, no sick pay, and no health insurance. Options like eHealthInsurance.com definitely help, but that is something I have to take care of on my own.

Red Eye Designer takes off!

We have lift off! After long hours, million of sound bytes from pandora, and gallons of coffee, Red Eye Designer is online! I had a lot of fun building this site and learned a lot about WordPress. I even picked up some jQuery along the way. I feel like I ran a marathon. Today signifies a big moment for me as this is more than just a website. It’s a business, a hobby, and a passion all in one.

And today, it’s my pleasure to present to you, Red Eye Designer. Online and at your service.

Red Eye Designer 2.0

After about 12 straight hours of developing I’ve finally got my site’s redesign Live! While I’m not 100% done with the site, I wanted to get something live to work out any bugs I may encounter. Design wise, I’m done. I have some content to add and that’s about it. I’m really excited about this. I’ve spent the better part of the last few months to learn the ins and outs of WordPress and I finally feel like I have a good grasp. I’ve added some cool jQuery effects over in the main navigation and on the links in the side bar. I’ve even added a cool css effect to make the comments look like speech bubbles. It’s all css, no images. Now I’ve got to add the finishing touches and search for quirks. If you see any, please let me know.

My site is nearly done!
